Suddenly, in China, entertainment media focuses on Michael Jackson, his career, his legacy, his music, his alleged scandal as well as his passing.

    First of all, for most of Chinese, there was no Michael Jackson in their lives. Before his passing, few people listen to him, who follows the local media just keeping curious about and indeed interested in his distorted images, which is one of the most successful products created by entertainment industry and mass culture.

    If the public image was totally produced by western main stream media, which is a process of distortion required a sort of creativity and ideology, including white people superiority, then the work of media in china and other country were somehow to trace the line in which the image can be consumed by local people.

    In other words, media in china, at least in the term of Michael Jackson do nothing but copy without re-thinking or cultural self-reflection or understanding.

    Two days ago, one of my friend contacted with me, and asked if I can take a interview conducted by Chongqing's local media. In addition, he continued, they need a local fan who can go out and talk, who in the favorite condition could do some imitation, and if I can give they some photos with Michael Jackson style costume, thing could be perfect.

    Before that, to my knowledge, there was no Michael Jackson in local media, the only thing they would like to pay their attention is to follow what oversee media has said without checking, which is also an activity being regarded by themselves as  international gesture. In my city, which located in the southwest of China, dominated by Communist Part authority, Michael Jackson is nothing but a dream can never be reached.

    Under the depression by the authority on culture, there is no way for local people to understand diverse culture, the modern pop culture, let's specified it as, in a great degree, culture created by Africa-America.

    I am surprised by the sudden aspect of human being, or sympathy paid by the local media who is notorious with it's narrow view and mindlessness. The instance I have given above, illustrated that, the way the local media employed to cover Michael Jackson's passing. All of a sudden, they found out that there is very limited things can be done, they knew nothing about Michael Jackson, after so many years' censorship. The common gesture imposed by Chinese media is to issue special edition focusing on Michael's general career which is a kind of material satisfying those people who's curiosity suddenly emerged towards the King of Pop. My mother is an instance, who called me last night, said she felt very sorry for Michael, and her missing his songs and dances when he was alive, she thought Michael is a great man. As my mother is an emotional person, I could even hear her crying.
Another thing, most Chinese media will do, in this case, TV media has some special advantage, is to find some people dance or pose before the camera. This is an effective way, any way, for it can link local people, made them enjoy or so called share the memories deriving from those who experienced the pop culture with Michael Jackson as its main rep. But this is also one of the main reason I refused to take the interview, I just don't want Michael and myself becoming new material of entertaining.
If you want to pay tribute to Michael, you should keep the concept in mind, that he is a human being, and he is an artist.

    For the reason of time,. China and Chinese people has lost forever the chance to consume Michael Jackson, who, according to some sources, would like to come to china for live convert. What the Chinese media tried to do is introducing people the great entertainer, as a way of showing their international gestures, and grasp the last chance to consume Michael Jackson, the biggest pop icon in the last wave of so called global tribute.

    And then, I am very sure, they will forget him soon, and forever. 

    过去，他们诅咒Michael, 我竖起我的中指。
    现在，他们歌颂Michael，我竖起我双手的中指。
