I lost my home forever, the starting point of relationship between the city and me. From now on, I know that I can not try my best to rebuilt it in my memory desperately again and again, it has became an imagery, which not only from the original experience, but also inspired by something I read and hear.

This is a major shack in my mid-twenty, I know I should write it down. At the place near the coast, there is only debris now, which would be occupied by new tall buildings as what is going on all over the city. I don’t mean the material, but the very sense of beginning, from which I begin to have my early experience of the urban space, the smell, the shape of old buildings, the allies passing though the shadow casting by green vegetable, as well as the brilliant sunshine in the summer, the melancholy of mist floating over the Yangzi river, on which there are boats and the wave created as they moving from the very far point to another very far point towards the opposite direction.

This is the fate of people in this city, not only me, we are all driven by modern world, a kind of world as someone put it appreciated uni-directional progress. As those straying dogs, we live in un-stable circumstances, the only different is that their home destroyed by people under the name of progress and civilization, however, under the same umbrella we destroy our own.

From Nan Shan mountain, to the south bank of Yangzi river, this is a wonderful route to experience the diverse geography of Chongqing city. This area, initially had not so many residencies, but the specially area for foreign ambassador offices during the Republic. At the mountain foot, located a small town, where is my first home, my parents as well as grand-parents lived here.

One of the most interesting part of my early life, is the discovery and experience of secret pass-ways, which in essence, are the different ways from home leading to my primary school. Up to the maintain, passing though countless buildings, gardens, steeps, this is the way to school, a kind of experience which until recently, I found out that have strong relationship with my appreciation towards Tadao Ando’s vocabulary.

I try to remember my old place, I read and imagine them in the ancient poetries dated from Tang Dynasty, describing great rivers, I saw them in some pics created by young artists in Chongqing, I intend to collect as more as I can reference about it, especially those foreign author.

What I can do is to rebuild it as an imagery, it is not only the old place, but also involving the point of departure.
